Grade 5 Orchestra - First Performance!

We are very excited to be developing two small orchestras in the prep school. Our existing group (who are now in Grade 6) are learning new songs and growing together more each week!

This year, we have a new group of students from Grade 5 who are working extremely well in their music lessons and presented their first performance in the Prep Assembly last week! They played the song Croc Rock, an unaccompanied blues piece and their rhythm and concentration was excellent. Thank you to our instrument tutors for working so hard each week with our students!

Here is a video of rehearsal and the performance from last week:

A special thank you to the parents of our students who are supporting the developing music programme  in the Prep School at St George's College.
We look forward to the next performance soon!

Infant Play - October 2012!

A few weeks ago the students from Grade 1, 2 and 3 in the infant school presented their fantastic musical! Through singing, dancing and acting, they took us on a journey through 3 fables to help us understand some of the more important things in life. We laughed, clapped, sang and cheered our way through two 'fabulous' nights in the Centenary Theatre. Well done to all of the students and staff involved! Below are some photos of the students in action:

Grade 1C - The Cats!

The Lion and the Mouse

The Hunters - Grade 2

Grade 3 - The Hawaiian Dudes and Dudettes

Our two main characters did a wonderful job!

Thank you for the support and we are already looking forward to next year :)

Music update August 2012

Well, it's been a busy year for Prep School Music so far!

Instrumental Programme
The Grade 4 students began their instrumental lessons and are doing extremely well.

The Grade 5 Select Band Group students began their special focus classes on their instruments and are progressing quickly each week. They have begun performing as an ensemble and we hope they will form the beginning of a future orchestra here at St Georges, Quilmes.

Our grade 6 students are continuing their lessons and have been featuring in some performances in prep school assemblies.

Prep Musical - I'll Begin Again
The prep musical in June was a massive success. All children from grades 4, 5 and 6 took part in creating a unique play, which explored the theme of changing attitudes and helping those in need! Full of great acting, singing and dancing, all of the students did a wonderful job!

New Building
In August, we moved in to the top floor of the new prep building. Music now has a beautiful space, with two large teaching rooms, six practice rooms and a keyboard lab. We are still settling in, but the students seem to love the new area and lots of great music is being made everyday! Come and have a look whenever you like!

Infants Play In Progress
We are currently in full swing getting ready for the infants play in October. The play is based on a story about fables and features all of our students from Grades 1, 2 and 3. The students are learning the songs in music class, practicing the lines with their class teachers and working on the dancing at the moment. We are looking forward to seeing the children shine in the Theatre on the 11th and 12th of October!

There are lots of things happening as we prepare for Founders Day and Grade 5 and 6 performance tasks, so come back soon for more information! :)

Wonderful new art work

This week, many new and exciting works of art have gone on display in the prep school. Not the works of famous masters, but the work of our very own students. Some abstract, some inspired by the likes of Jackson Pollock...............please see the pictures below of the work of our own talented masters and mistresses.......

Welcome to the Prep Creative Arts Blog

Welcome! This is the first post of many on our new prep school creative arts blog. During the last twelve months, the college creative arts blog has flourished with over 4500 views worldwide. Twelve months on, the creative arts team felt that a celebration of the wonderful work that goes on in our prep school was well over due and thus, here is our prep school blog.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will be updating our blog to reflect the diversity, creativity and dynamic approach we have to creative arts in prep. Creative arts have a wealth of value within the school curriculum in a completely unique and often unexpected way. Creative arts aid learning on so many levels, they help higher order thinking, they embrace diversity and they have huge cognitive effect on subjects like languages, maths and literacy. They build confidence and foster self belief, they embrace all the values of team work and even help the motor skills needed for sports. We have in place an amazing team of professionals who lead our students in Music, Art and Dance. We also have, as you will see, a hugely talented group of students. I invite you to view the blog as often as possible as it really will be a celebration of the amazing things that are being created by your sons and daughters. Let´s celebrate together the wonderful work of St George's College creative arts prep department..........................................
